Sony's Play At Home initiative returns today, and this latest update to the scheme just so happens to contain the biggest free PlayStation 4 game of the lot. Starting today through until 14th May 2021, you can claim and download Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition for free. The only thing you need is an active PSN account — PS Plus memberships or PS Now subscriptions are not required whatsoever. The PS4 title is yours to keep forever. To start downloading the game, UK and EU users should head through this link while US readers can use this one.
As a reminder, the Complete Edition contains the Horizon Zero Dawn base game complete with all patches and updates received since launch as well as the Frozen Wilds expansion. In our 2017 review of Horizon Zero Dawn, we described the game as "both unusual and excellent". Concluding with a 9/10 rating, we said:
Debuts don't get much stronger than Horizon: Zero Dawn. Guerrilla Games' latest borrows liberally from a variety of different sources, and yet it leverages these fundamentals to forge an experience that's daringly unique. The main quest tires a little towards the end, and the writing never hits the same highs as The Witcher 3 – but the tactical action stands leagues ahead of what we've come to expect from the genre, and the presentation is quite simply unmatched.
In the November of that same year, Guerrilla Games followed the original title up with the Frozen Wilds DLC. It's a great expansion that we awarded an 8/10 in the Push Square review, concluding:
Horizon: Zero Dawn delivers a timely reminder of why it should be a Game of the Year candidate with The Frozen Wilds. This sizeable selection of snowy quests expands upon an already excellent campaign with a decent new storyline and plenty of fresh exposition. While it is, by its very nature, more of the same, it’s hard to complain when the foundations are already so strong.
Again, you've got until 14th May 2021 to claim Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition for free. Nine other PS4 games are also included in the Play At Home initiative right now, but you've only got a few more days to redeem them. For more information on All Free PS4 Games, Offers Included in Play At Home Initiative 2021, head on through the link.
Will you be checking out Aloy's inaugural adventure before Horizon Forbidden West (hopefully) arrives later this year on PS5 and PS4? Share your first impressions in the comments below.

I hope many ps users will experience this game. It is a great game.
IT'S FREE!
Really tempted to just start playing this one, but with how long it seems and my massive backlog, i can't decide :'[
I wonder if this will somehow be spun into a negative article?
Either way, if you haven't played it yet...do it. A really really good game that got overshadowed by breath of the wild but is still one of the gaming greats.
Hoping this one gets an 60FPS patch soon like Ratchet. Would like to return to Horizon to finish the DLC.
@ATaco
I heard you can't play it on the PS3 and the game will stop working on your console in 20 years.. it's absolutely outrageous haha
Five posts so far....I'm wondering if there will be more posts than people who haven't played this yet.
This game is absolutely fantastic!Was my Game Of The Year and I put at least 100 hours into it and about 25 hours into the expansion.
Can't believe Sony are giving one of the best games away for nothing.
I highly recommend everyone to download this.
Oh man I already have the vanilla version on disc but since this is free and the complete edition I'm tempted to download it anyway. Am i crazy?
It is a damn fine game though!
Excellent I thought I had missed out on picking this up.
I'm hoping when I download this I haven't somehow lost my save file. And I can jump straight into the DLC that I haven't tried yet. Really looking forward to play in this world again. The main game being my top 3 favourite games of the generation.
@lolwhatno
Heck i might as well! What a game to get for free! I envy those playing it for the first time.
Already got the plat for this so will have to see if I can get back in to it for the DLC. It’s because of DLC like this and that with Spider-Man etc that I’m now reluctant to get standard editions of games nearer release...but then often you can’t get physical complete editions these days anyway, making the price of the complete edition skyrocket...so thanks for the free Sony.
For anyone yet to play this, what a fantastic game you are getting for free.
The concept of 'cave man' meets technology kind of shouldn't work, but it does and then some. Its like an open world mechanical jurassic park which visually is beautiful and plays very well.
Great game.
Can't wait for the second one!!
Look at all those old quotes in the article which still include the colon. How innocent you were back then. They were simpler times.
Hope there will be a 60fps patch too like with Ratchet&Clank
N.i.c.e. i will be downloading this masterpiece.no doubt playa.cant wait.word up son
I bought the base game a while ago..actually it was ages ago maybe years..anyhow downloaded this morning and i've spent around 2 hours on it and i'm asking myself why did i never play this..i cant remember what made me stop playing it because its really good and it looks stunning..its a shame i still feel like crap warmed up because i want to really get stuck into it but i need sleep..cheers sony for sucking away more of my life..
Very excited to grab this. I don't think I'll play it right away as I'm still relatively early in God of War. Nier Replicant is coming on Friday too. Definitely one I want to get to in the next few months though.
Slightly miffed that I bought this on sale a few weeks before they announced they were giving it away for free.
Still have to play it properly, although played the first couple of hours 1-2 years ago and I don’t know why but something felt off. Felt somewhat the same playing Ghost of Tsushima this year; a game I felt was twice as long as it needed to be and whilst it kept drawing me back, I finished each session like I had just completed a few tasks on my work checklist.
Honestly starting to come to the conclusion I just am not too keen on open-world stealth action-adventure games with crafting and collectibles; which narrows down to more than half of major AAA releases these days. That’s a concerning thought...
I was given this free on disc when I bought the PS4 Pro, haven't played it yet. At least now I won't have to find the disc to not play it. 😂
Seriously though, well done Sony for this. Although booting up the PS4 Pro reminds me why it doesn't get used - it never downloads updates when in sleep even though it's been set to and added about 4 to the list before Horizon which I decided to pause, it whined about being out of space even when I changed the location of the download (you have to delete and re-add it for it to "notice" the Application Install Location had been changed...) and it takes like 10 presses to turn the controller off compared to the One X's 3 presses. 🤮 It might have a ton of great games but it also has a truly crappy, cluttered UI where I still can't easily find things years later.
PS4's best exclusive, in my opinion.
everyone stop what your playing and start this game... it's amazing!
@FX102A I know what you mean about GoT. An unpopular opinion but whilst I enjoyed the aesthetic and combat I did find it a little boring and repetitive for the most part. Not to mention the world was empty and NPCs were sooo dull.
Horizon on the other hand gripped me. For me, the world and story was far more vibrant, varied and captivating than GoT and I never found it a chore to do anything. Hopefully if you stick with it it will grow on you.
This is a pretty amazing game to be giving away for free.
@Zeldafan79
Maybe we are both crazy. I have disc on a shelf but uninstalled it and downloaded free complete version. Now I have the dlc and don't have to go to the shelf. Double bonus.
Still hoping so much for a 60fps patch. Other than Gravity Rush 2 which we know will never get one, this is the one game I'm holding out on in hopes it happens. With a sequel in the works soon, I can't imagine they'd let the original skip out on the update treatment forever.
@Ward_ting Thanks for the info.
Totally agree, GoT looked nice technically but in a push for realism you kind of realise that Tsushima as an environment isn't all that varied. Not to mention by the end the constant storms were making my travels less pleasant (I thought using the best tactics to wage a successful guerilla campaign was something I'd be rewarded for with bit of sunshine).
I'll try to give Horizon another good shot in the near future.
Back in the day I purchased the complete edition, but never got to play it. Now I have PS5 and stopping myself from playing it in hopes that remaster, or a simple frame rate unlock, isn't far off.
Almost every Playstation Owner already owns this game....so, not a big deal.
Hi there fellow gamers.
Do yourselves a favour and buy............
Never mind, just download this gem of a game 😜
It´s one of the BEST PS4 titles and the on of the Best open world action rpg of all time.
As much as I love Ghost of Tsushima, and I really do love it, Horizon: Zero Dawn will always be THE GAME that made me fall in love with this Playstation generation.
Cheers, stay safe folks and happy open world gaming to us all
What an amazing game, its one of those I wish I could wipe my memory and play again fresh! Must've watched the initial E3 reveal video 50 times lol. Really looking forward to Forbidden West!!
@zohaibshehzad well HZD sold about 11 million. PS4 has sold 115 million consoles. So not 'almost every person owns it'. But thanks for the failed negative spin on them giving something for free.
I already own this game and have beaten it, but happy for all the new people who will get to experience this game.
@Andy22385 oh Sensitivity... , Its good that they gave it for free but remember 11 million sales figure is only physical copies, huge number of digital copies not included, then it was also given as ps plus game before, lastly it has been on PS Now for quite sometime now. PS Now went on sale so many times. Thats why I think that almost every Playstation Owner may already have their hands on it. Dont tell me you believe that all 115 million PS4 are functional by their owners. Active users will be lot less than that.
@redd214 same here man 👍
@zohaibshehzad no it isn't 😂 that's including digital sales too. And it's never been given as a PS Plus game either so that's wrong. It's been on PS now, but 2 million subscribers, most of which won't have played it there doesn't equal 110 million players.
